Happy Birthday, Mr Jinnah

by Akhtar Nawaz Janjua

Happy birthday, Mr Jinnah

Nation is celebrating your birthday with a change of guard at your Mausoleum (Pray to Allah Karim SWT that it goes for a change of heart and deeds as well), through statements paying you homage (Pray that it takes time to see its own statement of deeds towards your Pakistan), via write ups like this one to remember you (Pray that it sees the writing on the wall written through its irresponsible performance for the last six decades after you left it), through electronic media talks and print media supplements (Pray to Allah Karim SWT that it finds time to read the volumes of everything mis...............).

You were the chosen one and we have not measured up to the task once you left us (good for you because we have a very poor record of treating our benefactors). We have proved to be unworthy heirs. We could not retain even that which Allah Karim SWT granted us through you.

We know that you were pronounced dead by your Doctor in 1946 but Allah Karim made you live to see your assignment completed. We accept that physically we are very fit, very healthy (mentally sick though entire nation is) yet we have not completed a single assignment till date.

-->

We know that you were all rules and nothing else; only indiscretion (as per outsiders) you ever committed was to drive to the house of Viceroy asking him "get me my Pakistan else I get your India destroyed" after your Doctor had told you that you were dead as far as he was concerned. Unfortunately (for your information) we never believed in rule of law and have no intent to do so any time in future.

We know that even your worst enemies can not point a spot on your character - (moral, financial and as a leader). We  for your information are covered under black stains in every sphere of life.

You didn't allow your brother to use your name on the visiting card 'as Governed General had no brothers - M A Jinnah had'. We do not hesitate to use the name of Allah Karim SWT for our dirty stuff.

The list of our blemishes is long but we haven't lost hope because as your friend and mentor Allama Iqbal RA had said:
ذرا نم ھو تو یہ مٹی بڑی ذرخیز ھے ساقی

We require lot of Prayers from you, Hazrat Iqbal and your other associates, huge quantity of "GHAIRAT-E-EEMANI-O-MILLI, HARD WORK, SINCERITY OF PURPOSE, HONEST LEADERSHIP, SELFLESS APPROACH AND GREED FREE ROUTINE".

Unlimited Prayers for you and your colleagues - Happy birthday !

25th December – the birthday of the Christ and Quaid

The last week of December is a week of celebrations – when the entire Christian World is engrossed in celebrating the birth of Prophet Isa (May peace be upon him) or the Christ. Yes I am talking of Christmas – falling on 25th December, the birthday of a prophet.

Unlike the Christian world, for whom there is no prophet to revere after the Christ, we the Muslims have same respect as we have for any prophet that came to this world before Prophet Muhammad (May peace be upon him). For us, the birthday of a prophet is as respectful as it is for his followers.

So Happy Christmas to all Christians around the globe. And I wish everyone peace, love, prosperity and all the happiness in life. When I went to market today, I saw lot of rush on shops selling Christmas trees....

Mickey Mouse is 80 years today

I come from a generation which grew up watching cartoons of Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Tom and Jerry and Mickey Mouse. The cartoons today have become excessively digital and technology intensive, but in our days cartoons were cartoons. We watched and laughed, rather than getting puzzled and scared of what is shown today. But on the contrary, our children love watching these monstrous and technical cartoons and laugh at our innocence and simplicity to having been grown up watching Tom and Jerry and Mickey Mouse. Time changes and every generation looks at the older generation with sinister smile and perhaps vice a versa.

Returning to Mickey Mouse again – this rat turned hero of cartoons is perhaps the most adored and loved cartoon characters. Although even today it is as young and energetic as it was when it was conceived, he in fact is 80 years old today. Conceived on18th November 1928 by the famous Walt Disney when he appeared in a cartoon titled Steamboat Willie. Mickey was originally voiced by Walt Disney himself. Later Jim Macdonald replaced Walt Disney and is voiced today by Wayne Allwine. Mickey was created to replace an earlier cartoon character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Mickey is not only makes children giggle and laugh on TV, he also appears on a number of merchandise, T-shirts, comics and is also the Chief Greeter at the Disney theme parks. Mickey starred in over 120 cartoons and also starred in the Mickey Mouse Club, a TV show of the 50s. Today, despite being an “old rat” of eighty years, Mickey still rules the cartoon world.

Happy birthday Mickey!!
